What is Aussie Hoops? Aussie Hoops is an initiative of Basketball Australia and the Australian Sports Commission to establish a National Basketball Program for primary school aged children. The Aussie Hoops Out-of-School program introduces children the game of basketball through modified activities and rules, without full scale competition, and most importantly in a fun and safe environment.
Who can participate in Aussie Hoops? The program is player-centered, fun-focused and affordable to all. Girls and boys; abled or disabled; naturally gifted or sporting battler, Aussie Hoops caters for ALL. It provides opportunities to learn, opportunities to play with your friends and opportunities to develop important social skills in a convenient, safe and friendly environment.
Who runs the Aussie Hoops program? Basketball Australia has specially trained presenters from your association to provide fun-filled activity sessions at your local school, community centre or local stadium. Whether you are committed to becoming a champion or just enjoy the sport of basketball, Aussie Hoops will offer appropriate programs to meet all children's desires.
What are the aims of the Aussie Hoops program? First and foremost Aussie Hoops is designed to be safe for children and to be enjoyable for players, teachers, parents, and coaches. Sessions emphasise involvement and are designed to gradually build confidence, create a positive outlook on physical activity, develop healthy lifestyles and establish a relationship between elite and grass-roots basketball. The program is specifically structured to be easy to implement and to adapt to any locality.
Capitals Hoops In-School: School-based activity designed to introduce kids to having fun with basketball. The program caters for all Primary aged from Kinder to Year 6.
Aussie Hoops Out-of-School: At Association: Basketbal ACT "learn to play" program for children between the ages of 4 - 6yrs and 7 - 9yrs. This program is run every school term.
